Me and my first bear Lily, made from clothes my lovely Mother wore.
Meet Lily Bear!
She was the very first bear I made in 2012 from my lovely mother’s clothes that I had kept in a cupboard for 18 months after she passed away. I spent three days making her then shared her with my friends on Facebook. Everyone loved her and Lily's Love was born! I was inundated with requests from family and friends and soon after asked my sister Gail, who is also a seamstress to help with the bear making!
Over 7 years later and we are still as busy as ever! My original Lily bear sits on a shelf behind me in my studio, watching over me, My lovely Mam would be so proud of the love and comfort I give in my bears.
I have adapted the design of the bears over the years, they are jointed with a very strong cord and buttons in the traditional way, so the limbs are posable. The bears are fully lined in cotton interfacing the filling is packed in very firmly, so the bears sit unaided without having to prop them up. This gives my bears the appearance and feel of a high quality collector bear, rather than a teddy bear and they are built to last a lifetime.
We all have a special outfit or sentimental item of clothing tucked away in a cupboard, that we can’t bare to part with, why not have it transformed into you own beautifully tailored bear?
